With due deference to the UK TV programme of the same name I thought it fitted this shot from an editorial feature I did a couple of weeks ago.
Chris and Simon are property developers. But not like the guys on TV. Oh no. These guys are top-end, renovating very very large homes and offices in very very prestigious locations for some very rich clients! And so it came to pass that I found myself booked to shoot a series of portraits to accompany an interview feature for a leading property magazine.
I was on my way to one of their latest projects in the heart of cosmopolitan Cheshire. The very beautiful large house was a hive of activity. Builders everywhere. I shot a few setups then spotted this table which was situated in a bay area. Sunlight was streaming in through the material at the window and made for a natural backdrop.
I positioned Chris and Simon at the table in similar poses as I wanted this shot to be square (confession: I love the square format as if you hadn’t guessed from the portfolio…..it takes me back to the days of the Hasselblad, 120 film and the smell of fixer… ). Cranked up the flash pack to “11″ and shot.
The result is pretty much as I envisaged when I first saw the table. Its funny how you just gravitate to areas and places and can see the shot before you start. When I selected this frame to work on it was a bit rich in colour for my taste. I toned the final file and desaturated the colour a bit, but I’ve tried to keep the golden glow that I saw and the tight colour palette that was made by the table and the curtain material and the wooden bowl. I think it makes the guys stand out and makes for an interesting portrait.

You can see a larger version of the final in the “people” gallery on my website portfolio
Until later….
