Recent landscape additions

February 1st, 2009

I don’t get much chance to shoot Landscape.  That’s a shame because there’s nothing quite like picking your spot and waiting for the light. I should do this more because I’m only a few hours away from the Peak District, The Lake District and the beauty of England’s eastern coastline.  Happily though, as someone who shoots things for money, I’m normally working my butt off either shooting or prepping or retouching commissioned work or stock but good weather days and my desire to shoot more landscape never seem to coincide with a free-time window.  Good Landscape work comes from the ability to wait for the right conditions at the right time of day.  Then again, good weather days between November and March in the North are few and far between. I could be waiting for a while…

I did have a run to the Lake District in October last year that coincided with some sun and good visibility and some rain and cloud!  Took one of the ‘even lower classified than a B road’ routes I’d not explored before and found myself deep in the Langdale valley.

Also managed to get myself round the top end of Blencathra which is a view you don’t often see.  The whole scene called for a panoramic approach. The weather had changed in about half an hour with cloud bubbling up by the minute.  I waited until thankfully the sun broke through on the back of the mountain before making this exposure.

I also reworked a favourite panoramic image from my home county of Surrey.  These are the gentle rolling hills of the North Downs near Guildford looking towards the South Downs on the horizon on a hot June day with bags of crisp visibility.

You can see a larger version of these images in the “land” gallery on my website portfolio.

Until later…
