The making of a Christmas Card image
December 11th, 2009
Seasons Greetings one and all! While wondering what to do for a Christmas Card this year I thought it would be good to show you how it was made as well.
I wasn’t happy with my selection of wintery images from last year. It didn’t snow much here (we get the stuff that doesn’t last) and when I did get to shoot in the snow it was for content that isn’t very Christmassy at all.
So what to do? I pored over vast swathes of thumbnails looking for inspiration and then it came to me. How about an old Yorkshire Dales barn, in moonlight, as a stable, with a star overhead? Cheesy….but hey, it’s Christmas..!
Only one problem. I didn’t have any night shots of the Dales at all. I’d have to create one.
That’s when I thought it would be fun to show you the steps I took but sped up and packaged into a little movie. Here’s the final image:

Here’s a movie of how I got to this stage from a daytime image:
The movie above is only a small preview size to fit on my blog.

Have a very Merry Christmas everyone!
Until later…
