New year, new colour scheme

December 21st, 2009

Two years and one day to the day I launched my current site design I’ve decided to move from dark to light.  I think this gives my images more room to breathe.  I have  a lot of work to get up on the site over the next few weeks (what holiday?!) that I haven’t had chance to prep during 2009.

The blog has undergone a revamp in colour and functionality too which is going to make it easier and quicker for me to post. My blogging has been very sporadic in 2009.  The older blog design needed a lot of manual coding to embed images whereas this theme seems to be a lot quicker to edit.  Wordpress itself has come a long way since the version I was using at the back end of 2007 and it’s GUI is now much more user friendly.

Back to the main site, here’s some fresh screengrabs showing what it looks like now:

Full screen:

It’s particularly effective on panoramas:

Normal window:

Entry to the site still gives you two choices. To view full screen or in a normal window. Full screen really maximises the space to display the galleries and on monitors with larger real-estate available puts the image right in the centre of the screen with minimal distractions left and right.  Full screen doesn’t take over your browser, it leaves your minimise/maximise/close buttons where they are; it’s not going to mean you can’t ever leave my site; or download anything or pop up anything else.  I recommend ‘full screen’ for the full unadulterated viewing experience.  If you’re a wuss however, go ahead and choose ‘normal window’ but you’ll never know what you might be missing…

The thumbnail navigation scrolls up and down vertically and they auto-hide themselves after a few seconds. To get them back just move your mouse over to the centre-right of your screen and move the mouse up and down slowly.  If you ever get stuck just click the “Viewing Options” gallery from the menu for some directions.  To advance through a gallery just click the main image and the next image will appear.

To see the new colour scheme click here and choose full screen or normal window to enter.  If you’re viewing on a mobile device (like the iPhone ) your browser will redirect you to the mobile friendly version of the site.

I’d like to take this opportunity to wish all my clients and blog readers a very Merry Christmas and a happy and propsperous 2010. See you all on the other side of the Turkey…

Until later…

J
